About the Army Inshore Sail Training Centre
The Army Inshore Sail Training Centre is on the South Coast of England at Baker Barracks on Thorney Island in Chichester harbour. This allows sailing in Chichester Harbour, or windsurfing and kitesurfing at a premier site off Hayling Island. The Centre is an Army Sailing Association affiliated centre therefore anyone attending a course or using centre equipment must be a member of the ASA. The season starts in the spring each year and the centre delivers practical courses in dinghy sailing (including keelboat and multi-hull), windsurfing, powerboating and kitesurfing from basic courses to Instructor awards. On light wind days we run Stand Up Paddleboard courses for those at the Centre for no extra cost. Courses go through to late autumn where the centre closes down for the winter months.
We provide excellent equipment across the disciplines and all hire costs are included in the course fees.
The centre is also open for recreational sailing on Wednesday afternoons and Fridays as well as at weekends during the season. Please contact the centre manager for details.
The centre teaches to the respective National Governing Body requirements; The Royal Yachting Association (RYA), British Stand Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA) and the British Kite Sports Association (BKSA), This ensures high standards provides internationally recognised courses. All course publications and certificate costs are included in the course fees.
